Nestled in the heart of San Leandro, Leisure Cafe brings an inviting taste of authentic Hong Kong-style fast food to the local dining scene. This charming eatery masterfully blends traditional flavors with generous portions, making it a beloved spot for those craving comforting, scratch-made dishes that evoke the vibrant culinary heritage of Hong Kong.
At Leisure Cafe, the menu reads like a love letter to Hong Kong’s iconic fast food culture, featuring standout dishes such as the Beef and Rice with Egg in Stone Pot, where tender, savory beef melds with aromatic rice and a perfectly cooked egg, all sizzling in a hot stone pot that releases mouthwatering aromas the moment it arrives at your table. Another crowd favorite, the dried scallop egg white fried rice (蛋白瑶柱炒饭), offers a delicate yet flavorful harmony of tender egg whites and prized dried scallops that dance on the palate.
Seafood lovers will delight in the shrimp scallop scrambled egg over chow fun (滑蛋虾带子炒河), where soft scrambled eggs blanket silky, wok-tossed chow fun noodles studded with plump shrimp and scallops, delivering a rich, comforting bite in every mouthful. For those craving bold, fragrant spices, the Lemon Grass Chicken over Rice and Curry Beef Stew Chow Fun showcase intensified layers of flavor that linger wonderfully. The deep-fried chicken wings with a peppery salt crust (椒盐鸡翼) further exemplify the cafe’s ability to create addictive, textural contrasts.
Leisure Cafe also raises the bar with expertly executed baked dishes such as the Baked Pork Chop over Rice and Baked Steak Black Pepper options, where tender meats are enveloped in rich sauces atop a comforting bed of rice, macaroni, or spaghetti, finished with a golden crust that seals in flavors. And no Hong Kong-style meal is complete without a perfectly balanced cup of HK Style Milk Tea—silky, strong, and slightly sweet—offering the perfect refreshing counterpart to the meal’s robust flavors.
The dining atmosphere is casual yet welcoming, highlighted by efficient and friendly staff, which customers like Vann Lis have praised for swift seating and smooth online ordering. The innovative use of QR codes at each table allows diners to browse the menu and place orders with ease, making the experience both modern and seamless. Andy W’s note about the impressively large portions is a testament to the cafe’s generous hospitality, though it can lead to delightfully crowded tables filled with an abundance of dishes.
While most dishes consistently deliver authentic taste and satisfaction, some customers have observed small fluctuations in dish quality, such as the occasional inconsistency in beef tenderness or rice texture. Yet, this does little to diminish the overall appeal, as noted by loyal patrons like Ian Cheung, who recommends Leisure Cafe for its authentic flavors and affordable prices, especially highlighting the Portuguese Chicken Rice as a must-try.

Stopped by for dinner and tried it out for the first time. The atmosphere was good overall. The staff seated us right away and the online order was really simple. The food was good overall. Very well portioned.
In my opinion, great food ,LARGE portions (be careful because your orders might not fit the table). Tasty Chinese fusion, traditional and non traditional Asian cusine. They got fried rice/noodles , Porridge, soups , baked dishes with your choice of rice ,pasta, or macaroni. Each table has a QR code, you pick what you want, then they tally up the orders at the end. Very quick orders too.
Leisure Cafe is a Hong Kong style food. We ordered the beef ribs with rice and egg and the beef stew rice plate. The ribs and the beef ten tendons were chewy and not tender. We've eaten here in the past. When eating out, sometimes past experiences don't match up with recent ones. Last year, the beef stew was pretty good and tender.
Good Food and Friendly Atmosphere. Food very affordable.
The food is generally tasty and quite authentic. I really like their Portuguese Chicken Rice, and I've been getting them every time. But each time, I feel like it's getting more soggy. Other than that, I have no complaint, and this is a highly recommended restaurant! If you are in the area, you should definitely try their authentic bargain Hong Kong styled restaurant.
Absolutely delicious food and amazing desserts! I consider them the best in San Leandro now. Daisy has been very courteous and patient with all my specific requests. I come every week since I found them. The restaurant has plenty of parking and it is super sanitized. I love it. Great service and ambiance as well.
